Rain, Rain, Go Away

Rain, rain, go away, come again another –

Well, don’t come again until we are out of quarantine.

If your family is anything like mine, there is one thing your doing to kill time.

Going outside.

We walk.  We spend so much of our time walking these days that I do not even run anymore.  I’ve had an old nagging foot injury that required nightly icing after running that I’ve decided to give the old girl a rest.  A running rest at least.  The run didn’t seem necessary anymore.  I’m still getting a gazillion number of steps in a day with all our walking.

Until this rainy day.  I already fired up the treadmill this morning.  For a nice morning walk.

Thankfully, right around the time social distancing became a real thing this new Zoom thing also came into my life.  Do you know what Zoom is?  I learned a little over a week ago.

Zoom is this new video conferencing app that’s free.  Right when I was wondering if the callouses on my hands, well earned from gym time, were going to fade my gym decided to utilize Zoom.  My gym set up a class schedule and we all pop on at class time.  It’s good to see my trainers again, good to see (if not talk to) all the other familiar gym members as we workout in our homes while the trainer calls out exercises and encouragement to us.

I do the 8AM class every day.  Gives me the rest of the day to do housework, schoolwork – and walk.  Except for today.

I keep hitting refresh on the weather channel, hoping to see an hour where rain is not forecasted so we can get out.  My luck isn’t so hot.  As long as the kids can maintain an activity, maybe I’ll go hide behind a book.  Or maybe set up a puzzle.

Before I move forward though, I took a look back.  There was definitely some fun moments this week.

Declan was in a giggle fit over one school assignment on adjectives that poked his funny bone.  Or maybe it was my reaction to the answer that caused such laughs.

I INSISTED the answer was funny because “It is impolite to call someone fat.”

Do you see what the correct answer was?  Well, my jaw dropped and off went the giggles.

We walk the park that is attached to our neighborhood.  It’s surreal to see the playground equipment roped off, as well as the basketball courts.

There’s a pond too for pretty scenery.

And a good swim for Molly.  She has gone on so many swims she smells like a pond now.  It was supposed to be bath day today for her.  Then it rained.

We also figured out a way to make the walks go faster.  Have Declan ride his scooter.

Finally, on Friday I heard Declan call out to me, “Mom!  Come get Molly!  She won’t leave me alone!”

All I could say was, “Well, Declan – you are eating your ramen on HER bed.”

Here’s hoping for a brief break in this steady downpour day.  If not, I will just have to sing another song to get me through:

“The sun will come out….tomorrow…bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow….there’ll be sun…..”

  1. Really hope the foot sorts itself out. Do you know what it is? We have been cold but sunny. Unfortunately that’s now breaking down. The garden and the dog walk was not so much fun today. That answer made me smile as well. Is Bob on lockdown yet?

    1. It’s the tendon on the inside of my ankle (I think – that is how I Dr. Googled diagnosed it). So sore and it has been giving me grief since last Fall. I’m hoping the lack of running will cause some of the pain and swelling to go down. Yeah, he has been home for the past two weeks working out of the basement. Which is another reason I stay off the treadmill – I used to do my run at 8 and then one morning he had a conference call at 8:30 – so I switched everything up and felt okay not running with all the walking we do!

  2. My jaw would’ve dropped too. We’ve become so sensitized to words… it’s good, but kids DO need to learn what the definitions of words are.

We have sun and cold. The weather has been wacky. March is generally very much tourist weather, but it’s rained off and on almost the whole month. Ben likes the renewal of his mudhole in the back yard, but it’s too cold to play in it.

Hope you get to hide behind a book!🤞

    1. I couldn’t believe it! I was wondering who made the learning material, why it was being shown – everything! It just wasn’t right!
We have had some really nice days here and there so it makes these days hard. We don’t have school work today and Bob isn’t working – so there are a lot of people needing to find something to keep them busy. So far, so good – I’ll take it!

  3. The playground equipment in the park and school behind my house are taped off, too. It was so weird to see it. And I completely agree with you…I wish the rain would stop, if just for two consecutive days.

    1. It is so weird to see! The first few days I remember that we were all walking in the park farther away from each other but a mom still took her two toddlers to the playground and I thought – well, 2 things. 1. I was glad I was not in this quarantine with toddlers and 2. she still probably shouldn’t let her kids play there. But maybe I would have too with toddlers with a ton of misguided energy? Oh my – yes, rain, please stop! Just for a bit. Hope all is well with you guys!

      1. We are hanging in there. I just got a alert that there is now a thunderstorm warning in our area. 🙄 and thank you for the positive side of all this…I do not have toddlers. 😊

  4. I think about April showers a lot. It’s sad enough they closed off the playgrounds but we gotta content with rain now too.

Zoom is a great tool! Helps to keep in touch with people online.

    Enjoy your walks! 🙂

  5. Robyn, we are SPOILED. It’s only March and we’ve already had four sunny weeks of spring. Today’s weather stunk, and we ultimately went out walking in the rain. The rest of the day was spent on two long errands. I haven’t checked the weather yet, but I’m hoping we get a long enough break for a run. These days that time spent outside is definitely the highlight of the day.

    1. I agree. We ended up going for a walk in the rain as well. Here’s hoping for a better weather day today!

  6. It looks lovely where you are. (Except for the taped off stuff.) I did use zoom for the first time this week too, to meet with my cell group. Unfortunately I am a bit technologically challenged, so by the time I figured out how to turn my sound on, the meeting was nearly over. (Sigh.) You are an inspiration with all your exercising. I did get one slow walk in today. 👍

    1. My husband had to figure it out for me – I practically missed my entire first class because of sound. All good now, though. Zoom rocks!

  7. I read that HouseParty is the newer-than-zoom app of choice but I can’t attest to that because I fon’t use any of them outside of proctored online college exams.

    1. I agree! I feel bad for those with little ones trying to find something for them to do to get all their energy out!

  8. I laughed at Declan on the dog’s pillow. Such a kid thing to do. I’m just catching up on blogs so it’s now Monday. Day 2 of son. We are walking around here too, waving to strangers and saying hi, talking a bit to people we know, and listening to a guy playing the guitar on his porch. Sun is the best right now. You must have the clouds we had last week.

    1. I do think your weather shifted this way too! Today is the nicest day forecasted this week and it is still gray and gloomy out. Good to know sunnier days ahead!
