Halloween Fun!

“Martin knew it was Autumn again, for Dog ran into the house bringing wind and frost and smell of apples turned to cider under trees,” I began.

It’s Halloween!  The kids were finished with school and we had 2 hours before it was time to go out and do what they have been waiting to do all month:  Trick or Treat!

It is after school, after we eat that I read them one of  my favorite stories, “The Emissary” by Ray Bradbury.  I love to read Bradbury in Autumn around Halloween and love to share his stories with the kids.  “The Emissary” has the right touch of eeriness to set their Halloween Spirit!

The kids dressed in their costumes, make up was applied as necessary and we set out for the yearly Halloween picture

2 Spidermen and a witch were ready for Halloween!

Bobby decided to be Siderman for his brother.  Declan has been Spiderman for 3 years in a row.  His love for the character is deep.  To show his brother love and support, Bobby asked Declan if he could be Spiderman, too – and Declan was ecstatic.  Bobby got his costume and Declan has asked him to wear it with Declan since.

Catelyn decided on going classic.  A witch!  She was casting spells left and right!

Trick or treating was a blast.  I was dressed as Princess Leia from Star Wars.  A costume I had made for Declan’s birthday party.  He asked me to be it again, for Halloween.  I thought it was perfect as it was all white – so it would be easier for him to see me in the night if we were to get separated.

Bobby walked with Declan door to door.  Declan knew he needed to ring the bell, say “Trick or Treat” and “thank you.”  The only hang up?  If the house set up a table at the end of the driveway.  Declan knew he had to ring the bell, so the table kind of threw him off.  But he caught on soon enough.

The candy fever set in.  When asked what he was excited for?  Declan’s answer “Kit-Kat’s and Ring Pops.”

Declan had his fill after about 45 minutes and asked to go home.  Off we went to watch a favorite Halloween Movie Spookly the Square Pumpkin and look at all his spoils.  A fun night was had, and was had by all!

Halloween might be over, but costumes will still be worn.  Declan has already asked Bobby to wear his Spiderman costume to bed.

Of course, Bobby agreed.

  1. Awesome costumes. Looked like you all had fun — especially Princess Leia 🙂 And so true at the end — just because the occasion’s over, there’s no reason the fun should end (that’s something we forget as adults).

  2. Bobby takes great care of his little brother! Hope the witch didn’t set any heart breaking spell on the family while she was doing her castings. Sounds like you guys had a great time! Your white costume was a great way to help them find you if needed. If that costume wears out, how about going as a ghost?
