Thank you, King Ben’s Grandma!  I gladly accept this challenge.

Here are my two quotes on autism:

“My conversational difficulties highlight a problem Aspergians face every day. A person with an obvious disability—for example, someone in a wheelchair—is treated compassionately because his handicap is obvious. No one turns to a guy in a wheelchair and says, “Quick! Let’s run across the street!” And when he can’t run across the street, no one says, “What’s his problem?” They offer to help him across the street. With me, though, there is no external sign that I am conversationally handicapped. So folks hear some conversational misstep and say, “What an arrogant jerk!” I look forward to the day when my handicap will afford me the same respect accorded to a guy in a wheelchair. And if the respect comes with a preferred parking space, I won’t turn it down.”

King Ben’s Grandma knows I don’t like picking people, so she said I could do more quotes 🙂 Yay!

So here are a couple more that I enjoy:

“Asperger’s is not a disease. It’s a way of being. There is no cure, nor is there a need for one. There is, however, a need for knowledge and adaptation on the part of Aspergian kids and their families and friends.”

Side note, Stuart Duncan is a man with Asperger’s and has a child on the autism spectrum.  He is the creator of AutCraft, the first Minecraft server for children with autism and their families.  His Ted talk about AutCraft can be found here.

I’m not too good at picking people, so please feel free to join 3.2.1 quote me and say I sent you!  I would love to read your quotes as well!

  1. I like that Adam Walton quote! People don’t realize how difficult & how much energy goes into “passing” as NT. I also like the Duncan quote about the rainbow. So true.
These are one’s I’ve not seen from you before😮
Awesome!! Thanks for accepting and nailing the challenge 💌

    1. You bet! I had a lot of fun going through quotes today – thanks for including me on this one!

  2. People do not necessarily give wheelchair users help. Have been hit by a car crossing a parking lot while I was in a visibly marked cross walk! The damage to me and my wheelchair were thankfully minor.
